Coldplay: X&Y

Coldplay: X&Y

Some info:
This long anticipated, much talked about, 3rd Coldplay album is no bold revelation. It is pretty much similar to their previous work which means that they are not straying from a successful formula that obviously worked before. The easy-rock tunes are quite catchy and conservative, suited for easy listening. It’s an album that sounds exactly like you would expect! The timeless sounds keep reminding of something between U2 and Radiohead, without the surprise elements. I like it, it’s ‘pretty’. Sure, “You cut me down a tree and brought it back to me” is not an all-time great lyric, but it’ll grow on you! Certainly not the most original album ever, but sure to please any die hard Coldplay fan!

And in case you wondered, the cover design does have some significance. The blocks are arranged in a code developed in 1874. It uses visual representations of 1’s and 0’s in a 5 digit sequence corresponding with particular letters of the alphabet and typographic symbols. It is considered by many to be the first truly digital form of communication and got replaced by the Morse Code in the 20th Century.

Well, now that you know, go out and get the album. It’s a Coldplay Collectable! (And don’t miss the hidden tune, it’s my favourite)
