A delightful combination of olive oil, olives, wine, Mediterranean food, and festivity, await visitors to SA's largest gathering of olive producers at the 4th annual Cape Olive Fair. Dedicated to the delights of the olive fruit and fresh produce, the venue is in keeping with the tradition of hosting the event within the Cape Town area, in settings offering Old World ambience and pleasant outdoors surroundings.
As you arrive you will find a quaint square with 150-year-old buildings and a chapel surrounded with old trees, tables, umbrellas and food stalls. The wine, freshly baked bread, cheeses and buckets of olives will transport you to a sunny square in a far away village. You will stroll down a lane with flowers, herbs, vegetables, antique sellers, basket weavers and mime artists.
The olive and deli market will be held under roof in halls where olive lovers will indulge in the largest selection of South African olive products. From plump, juicy olives to those that are dried or semi-dried, olives stuffed with nuts, anchovies or red pimento, tapenades and a comprehensive range of locally produced piquant, medium and mild extra virgin olive oils. You will also find books on olives, olive cosmetics, olive trees, olive leave extract and olive ice cream specially made for the occasion. Producers will travel from all over the Karoo , Overberg West Coast and Winelands to present their wares to visitors.
South Africa 's internationally acclaimed olive producers Vesuvio, Willow Creek and Buffet will host info talks and demonstrations.
After you have filled your shopping bag with bread, olives, vegetables, handmade cheeses ... look up and see Table Mountain and enjoy a lazy afternoon in the courtyard with mime artists and music provided by opera singers, the accordion player Stanislav and Fine Music Radio. Each visitor will be provided with a wine tasting glass, compliments of Consol, to sample a delectable range of wines from local olive estate. |
