Iridium Project's unique mix of funk, uplifting house, electro, jazz, soul and breakbeats with live instrumentation is kicking up a storm in Cape Town 's party scene. The group constantly explores new frontiers of modern synthesiser technology with a wealth of extensive DJ experience and innovation, while incorporating instrumentation such as aboriginal didgeridoo, live bass guitar, 70's analogue keyboard and percussion.
DJs Mario Andretti and Nick Matthews provide the fresh and funky beats for the live instrumentation of Riccardo Moretti on analogue keyboards, congas and didgeridoo and Maurice "The Passion" on bass guitar with the divine vocals of diva Lu Chase.
"The didgeridoo and the percussion create an amazing connection with the crowd and allow the band to explore the tribal and African rhythms. Iridium Project takes its inspiration amongst others from Jamiroquai, who first incorporated the didgeridoo into his production, but adds a distinctly jazzy funk flavour, creating a new form of "tribal electro funk" says Mario.
The band's tasteful and classy production started bending the "equation" of funk with the hit "Real Love" and DJ Ryan Dent's Platform Records compilation, featuring "Smoke & Fly".
This month, June 2005, the party starts with "The Night Watchmen" Good Hope Fm compilation by Craig de Sousa and Dino Moran. Craig's mix on disc-one, features the last remix of "Smoke & Fly", where the groove gets really funky. Radio broadcasts of the major hits on Good Hope FM and 5 FM together with live performances country wide, have formed progressive platforms to catapult Iridium Project's talents into the limelight.

The upcoming release of their new album "Sequenced Funk", will contain two years of intensive work, with an amazing journey through funk, electro-jazz, and uplifting house, featuring the single "Sequenced Funk" and the tribal-funk hit "Pressure".
The name Iridium Project was chosen as a reference to the latin word IRIDIUM, which means rainbow. "We decided that the target was to show people a new approach to dance music and make a significant difference in the scattered styles of the international dance scene with live performances. We wanted to create a style which unified all types of people, fusing electronic styles and live performances. "The product is a dazzling ray of pure white light to guide the way" said Mario.
Iridium Project Live performs on selected evenings at Saturday World Beats parties at Rhodes House, starting at 22H00 with a cover charge of R50 per person. Look out for their new album to hit the shelves this year.
