My Chemical Romance: 3 Cheers For Sweet Revenge

Back To My Roots

Some info:
‘Back To My Roots’ is a well constructed album, consisting of classic soul-tracks that were made for the soul (cough cough) purpose of wooing. Not only is the listener transported back to the days of Shaft and Superfly, but gets to go on a truly soul-fullfilling journey.

The album is sported with tracks from Kool and the Gang and Luther Vandross, as well as the original Lady Marmalade sung by Labelle. In fact almost every song on this album is instantly recognisable. It must have been really difficult limiting this cd to only twenty tracks, but the producers did an excellent job with their selection. A masterly tribute to the kings and queens of soul.

Sugar Ray: Best of

Some info:
Whilst listening to the album one seems to get the feeling that this band would have been really popular had they produced this kind of music a decade ago. Oh wait… they did! After hitting a couple of top 40 charts, Sugar seemed to just peeter out of the music scene completely. Until now that is.

This Best Of Album consists largely of what one could call ‘feel good music’. Some songs will be instantly recognisable to those that used to party back in the nineties, such as Fly and Every Morning. Its the kind of music one would listen to whilst on the way to the beach, or at least involved in some sort of outdoor activity. It would seem the party scene has proggressed from this type of music as its mainstay, but who knows, maybe Sugar Ray can do it again. Doubtful but not impossible.

My Chemical Romance: 3 Cheers For Sweet Revenge

Some info:
Its been a long time since a band has come along with a really mean guitarist that is not afraid to strut his stuff, and My Chemical Romance give the room for some fantastic guitar work. But aside from this the band has a really good vocalist and sound, two of the foremost ingredients for a successful outfit.

Anyone who enjoys the genre (as well as those that don’t) should find this band breathtaking. They seem to have worked out the flaws from their first album, making sure that this one will be a hit. 3 Cheers For Sweet Revenge is packed full of British-style punk, lots of excitement, some interesting lyrics, but most importantly, it is overflowing with energy.
