Silvermine Nature Reserve

Silvermine Nature Reserve

Some info:
Falling within the Cape Peninsula National Park, Silvermine promises any visitor spectacular scenery and a variety of nature-based recreational activities. From hiking, to mountain biking, to horse riding, to simply enjoying a picnic and a stroll down the wheelchair friendly boardwalk surrounding the dam – Silvermine truly is, ‘A park for all. Forever.”

Renowned for its cross-spectrum of trails and hikes, the park is divided into two unequal halves -Silvermine West and Silvermine East (which is smaller). Both offer sights so breathtaking, you’re bound to remember them long after you have left the park – regardless of whether or not you brought a camera.

Silvermine West stretches out west of Ou Kaapseweg. Hike up to Noordhoek peak, enjoying the majestic views of the Noordhoek valley and Long beach along the way. At the summit you’ll find yourself surrounded by panoramic views of Hout Bay, Chapman’s Peak and the Sentinel.

Silvermine East covers a smaller area, incorporating the Muizenburg and Kalk Bay mountains and affording breathtaking views of False Bay. Here, you will also find the Silvermine sandstone caves and indigenous forests that provide a tranquil, cool resting place.

Located within the Cape Floral Kingdom, Silvermine offers an enormous variety of plant species. A large number of these are rare and endangered and some are found no where else in the world. Grysbok, lynx, baboon, porcupine, genet and tortoise have all been spotted here – including a variety of reptiles, insects and amphibians. Bird lovers can feast their eyes on a host of birds – Sunbirds, Kestrels, Kites, Falcons, Sugarbirds and the majestic Black Eagle to name but a few.

So what are you waiting for? The undisturbed beauty of Silvermine awaits.
