Lively parties were held here in the early 19th century. Since the SA Navy took it over in the mid 20th century, mysterious sounds have been heard, like the clicking of billiard balls and festivities. The ghost of Victorian explorer, Mary Kingsley (1862-1900) who died of fever in the Palace Hospital, has been seen in the passages.
