At a New Years party, held in the Manor House in the early 19th century, Hendrik Oswald Eksteen dared his son to ride his horse up the steep steps into the dining room. His son paused but the horse took flight and charged out, slipping on the steps and sent both to their deaths. Their ghosts return every New Year to replay the scene.
